What To Do for the Boyfriend's Birthday

So my Toughguy's B'day is approaching.
It's been a while since I've been in a relationship, and even longer since I've had a boy's birthday to worry about. I wonder what the etiquette is ... why hasn't anyone made some kind of handbook you can follow? Especially for when you're dating the "I don't care, whatever, don't make a big deal about me" species of man.

Which I hear is rather common.

Do I throw him a bash? Shower him with gifts, or just make the man a meal?

Do I have to dress sexy and be nice all day?

I was thinking of renting a bouncy castle full of bosommy bikini-clad bimbos and mud-slinging monkeys ... but this really should be a gift for him, not me.

What do other people do?

Mine is the same way with the "dont care" line, but if you dont do anything, they will be hurt. So for my man's 30th I threw a surprise party at a skatepark (he's a skateboarder)and had his favorite- ice cream cake. He loved it. Usually I just "dress sexy and be nice all day" and cook him/take him out to a nice dinner though.

for my man's most recent b-day he got a huge homemade breakfast with mimosa's and concert tickets to *our* favorite band :) it was a win win for me too!

guys tend to be pretty low maintenance about their birthdays... i think as long as we remember it at all they're happy.

(speaking of birthday's sten, i think OURS is coming up too:)

throw your own little private party. do the make him dinner thing with the dress sexy thing and throw in a little of the being nice thing. end that with a little thoughtful gift.
One year I threw a steak on the grill, made up some margaritas and got my man the BVSC CD Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba, and made him dance with me all night in the backyard with a few shots of tequila here and there. it was bliss. (yes, for both of us!)

Wow, that sounds really nice.

i love when people give gifts 'they' want and do things 'they' want for YOUR birthday.

how about people save the "make him do this" for their birthday and let him choose on his. sure you want romance but really... its not about you.

anyways as a dude i just want to be around my friends on the bday. we dont really need to do anything spectacular, just having people around makes you feel good. i wouldnt ask my woman to dress sexy and be nice because lets face it, if i dont already think she is this on her own then i wouldnt be with her to begin with.

I think 2 parties works for Toughguy. the one we're having with friends, then another later on between the two of you. I''m pretty certain you could arrange to watch a few good movies while scratching the back of his neck and he will be happy with that =p
